Every year, on August 15th, India and the many Indians living in countries across the world celebrated India’s Independence from British rule. Last week marked the 66th anniversary of this Independence and it was celebrated with lots of festivities. You can learn more about the events that led to this national holiday here.

This year’s Independence Day had even more than the usual. Due to a recent flood in the Indian state of Uttarakhand that killed dozens, Bollywood stars and celebrities put together a free 7-hour show in efforts to raise money for the flood victims. This was a great way for those who are more fortunate to give back to their fellow citizens.
